The turf field installation is complete and we are no longer taking donations!
“There’s little love loss for the Dallas Cowboys in the thick of Eagles Nation, but one member of “America’s Team” is earning kudos for a donation on behalf of his alma mater.”
On Monday, February 27, 2012, the Board of School Directors of Wallingford-Swarthmore School District approved allocating approximately $500,000 towards the installation of an artificial turf field at the district’s stadium field – King Field. This major commitment from WSSD requires the community (i.e. TeamUpForTurf) to raise the balance of funds necessary to complete this installation (total project costs are estimated at approximately $700,000, so TeamUpForTurf needs to raise approximately $200,000). Per the board motion, these funds must be raised by no later than June 30, 2013.
Our goal is to raise these funds as soon as possible and to make this dream a reality. If everyone contributes a meaningful amount (no amount is too small… or too big!), we will quickly reach the target and be able to get the project started and completed.
Thank you very much for your support!
Team Up for Turf is a group of community members, faculty, students, alumni and school district staff committed to raising funds for installation of one or more turf fields at Strath Haven High School. Understanding that the school district must continue to concentrate its financial resources on improvements to academic facilities, the group’s goal is to reach out and raise an estimated $700,000 for installation of a turf surfaces on King Field. When installed, the new turf surface will benefit school and community recreation association athletic teams alike.
While the Wallingford-Swarthmore Schools are widely regarded as one of the premier districts in the area, the district’s athletic fields are in need of improvement. Turf surfaces will provide for expanded utilization of the main playing fields on the high school campus, while making it less likely that fields on campus and throughout the community will be depleted by overutilization. Currently, many practices and games on the school’s fields are canceled due to weather and poor field conditions. In addition to providing higher quality and more reliable conditions, turf surfaces will enable the school and community athletic programs to stage tournaments that will bring valuable revenue to the district and municipalities.
We encourage you to tour our “Team Up for Turf” website, where you will find information on our fundraising goals, progress, and giving opportunities. Please consider making a contribution to the campaign; our young athletes will greatly appreciate the support. All donations are tax deductible (501(c)(3) application pending).
